At DES we are committed to creating a positive culture that promotes excellent behaviour. This ensures that all children have the opportunity to learn in a calm, safe and supportive environment. To achieve this we do the following:
• Establishing a whole-school approach to maintaining high standards of behaviour that reflect the values of the school
• Outlining the expectations and consequences of behaviour
• Providing a consistent approach to behaviour management that is applied equally to all pupils
• Defining what we consider to be unacceptable behaviour, including bullying and discrimination
Our staff follow a robust behaviour management system. This allows us to address challenging behaviours in a timely and appropriate manner, and to recognise exemplary conduct from our students. All children are expected to abide by our core behaviour expectations as shown below: -
Children who consistently follow these expectations and adhere to the Qatar Energy values of excellence, responsibility, collaboration, safety, integrity and respect are rewarded with house points through the Class Charts system. Exceptional behaviour is rewarded with ‘star’ status, granting special acknowledgement from our Phase Leaders.
In class, teachers use a traffic light system to support children to follow our behaviour expectations. This system categorises behaviour into green, amber and red levels, guiding appropriate interventions and corrective actions as needed. Where children are unable to follow our school behaviour expectations, we use our Behaviour Pathway to determine what action to take.
We recognise that each child is unique and prioritise individually tailored approaches for those with underlying behavioural challenges. Children are supported by Phase Leaders and the wider leadership team, our SEND department and Wellbeing Officer. To support children facing difficulties during break times, we use a ‘Reflection Room’ where children can spend time with an adult or in a small group in a calm and reflective environment.
