Well-being

As a school that serves the family of Qatar Energy employees working in Dukhan, we offer a happy, safe, community setting. Every child is nurtured in a caring and supportive environment by experienced and dedicated classroom practitioners, who are supported by an Inclusion Team and a whole school Wellbeing Officer.

We are committed to protecting all children’s emotional health and wellbeing because we recognise how significantly this affects not only academic achievement, but all other aspects of life.  Evidence shows that structured wellbeing provision in schools can lead to reductions in classroom misbehaviour and conflicts. At DES, we continue to think of new and innovative ways to develop this including clubs, nurture groups, learning buddies, a dedicated PSHE curriculum, close liaison with parents and the unique and strong relationships we build with our students.

All children are surveyed annually to capture their views on school life. We ask child-friendly questions to assess children’s perception of themselves, their learning and their attitudes to school life. Our school Wellbeing Officer analyses these results, and we respond where necessary through targeted support or programmes of intervention based around social and emotional learning to ensure that all children are supported.

'We were all children once.  And we all share the desire for the well-being of our children, which has always been and will continue to be the most universally cherished aspiration of humankind.'  Kofi Annan
