MUN

Model United Nations (MUN) is to promote and foster collaborative solution-oriented discussion to important issues by instilling life-long passion for improving our global community into today's youth, who will be tomorrow's leaders.

Students from DES attend conferences in and around Qatar throughout the academic year. Within each conference, the aim is to seek, through discussion, negotiation and debate, solutions to the various problems of the world: e.g. questions of human rights, protection of the environment, economic development, disarmament, and the problems of youth and of refugees. The delegates are able to express their opinions in solving these problems in a professional, sensitive and critical manner.

Every year, Dukhan English School hosts its own conference (DESMUN). The first one-day conference was in 2011, in the school's Main Hall and community cinema to 100 delegates, DESMUN has now developing into a two-day conference that concludes at the Dukhan Recreational Club with over 350 delegates, guests and parents with a guest speaker and a performance by the school’s Soul Band. The conference is arranged and organized by the Big Four who deal with every detail of the conference.

DESMUN and MUN in general enables students to research and prepare for the future. Students adopt of views and attitudes other than their own. They have the opportunity to become involved and interact with many other young people from different cultures. This combined gives the students a deep insight into the world's problems, to make them aware of the causes of conflict between nations and to lead them to a better understanding of interests and motivation of others.
