Transition

We consider the transition from KS2 to KS3 an extremely crucial time in our students’ lives. We recognise the importance and value of ensuring all students are familiar with the changes they will encounter in Year 7. Our aim is to prepare students fully during this time so they are able to have a smooth and stress-free start to the new academic year.

As a 3-18 school, we are in a privileged position as we can begin Transition early. During the early part of the summer term of Year 6, students are introduced to the KS3 Progress Leader and the Head of Year 7.

Through a carefully planned Transition week with a variety of activities, our new students are able to experience a wide range of lessons in subjects they may not have studied before. Students will also meet their tutor during this time and have the opportunity to get to know them. Parents are invited to attend a Transition Meeting to meet all staff involved in Transition and to raise any concerns they may have.

We continue to carefully monitor each student when they begin Year 7. Students in Year 8 are selected to act as Transition Mentors to support our new students. We also have a counselling329 service available to support students who we feel need extra care.
