 Key Stage 2

Key Stage 2 comprises of Years 3 – 6, each with either 4 or 5 classes that are led by a Year Group Leader. Each class is assigned a Teaching Assistant to support the children with their learning. With an average class size of 25, staff are able to personalise learning for individual pupils based upon prior assessment so pupils can fulfil their potential.

Through a thematic and integrated curriculum, our pupils continue to acquire a broad range of skills, with an emphasis on the 21st century competencies. Teachers seek to maximize every opportunity to challenge our learners to think critically and develop the ‘thinking skills’ they need to evaluate complex information and propose solutions to unfamiliar problems. To help us achieve this we use the NXplorers toolkit that has been developed by one of the world’s leading STEM organisations. Numerous extra-curricular opportunities are offered to the pupils, such as the Destination Imagination event, to further enthuse and engage pupils.  At DES we believe this is an essential life skill and will help prepare our pupils to become productive members of a dynamic and technologically driven society.

Throughout the Key Stage, positions of responsibility are awarded to pupils as they take on the roles of School Council representative and House Captains. Other roles, for example, Class and Play Leaders ensure pupils are integral to the effective day to day management of behaviour and pupil welfare.

In Key Stage 2, the children develop their ability to read and write fluently, using RWI, Literacy and Language and other genre specific texts. Abacus is used as a framework for the teaching of mathematics. In addition, a broad range of subjects are taught, including, History, Geography, Science, Qatar History, Art and Design and Technology. The PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) curriculum incorporates the QP Schools Core Values of respect, empathy, care, tolerance, integrity and honesty. Specialist teaching in PE, ICT and Music ensures our pupils receive the best possible learning experiences to become healthy and all rounded pupils. All subjects are taught through engaging and vibrant topics such as ‘What Makes the Earth Hungry?’ and ‘Chocolate’.

Once a week, all pupils participate in a wide range of After School Clubs, led by our dynamic teaching staff, engaging our children in stimulating and exciting activities of their choosing.

Our school is a member of QPPSSA (Qatar’s Private Primary Schools Sporting Association) and children are selected to represent our school in various sports throughout every academic year.

We believe communication with parents and pupils is vital and welcome visits to the school. For further information, please contact Mr. Z. Iqbal (Assistant Head Key Stage 2).
