Careers advice in KS4
actually starts just before in Year 9, when students are given clear guidance
about choosing a balanced selection of IGCSE’s. Towards the end of Year 11
guidance is given about choosing A-levels that will suit their likely
university degree choice or, if they are a little unsure, leave plenty of
university options open. This is done during the summer term in Year 11 through
direct 1-2-1’s between parents and the careers staff. It is important that
parents and students can be sure they are making the appropriate A-levels
choices for Year 12.
Through the careers link with
PSHE all Year 11 students will have the chance to complete a psychometric test
and will then given time to investigate the resulting suggested careers and
jobs. In addition we arrange talks from university admissions tutors from
around the world as well as taking student out to visit university road shows.
These opportunities are important as they give the students a chance to talk
through their career plans and think about the different options open to them.
