The music curriculum is in Key Stage 2 aims to further
develop the children’s musical skills through performing, listening and
Children will have the opportunity to:
• Perform in solo and
ensemble contexts, using their voices and playing instruments.
• Improvise and compose music for a
range of purposes.
• Listen with attention to detail and
recall sounds with increasing aural memory.
• Use and understand staff and other
musical notations as a way of communication through music.
• Appreciate and understand a wide range
of live and recorded music drawn from different traditions and from great
composers and musicians.
• Develop an understanding of the
history of music.
In addition to class-based music lessons, there will be a
variety of extra-curricular music activities, e.g. Destiny Choir (Year 3 &
4), Descant Choir (Years 5 & 6), Ukulele Club, Percussion Ensembles,
Beginner String Orchestra and Beginner Wind Orchestra.
The children will have the opportunity to take up
instrumental tuition on Brass, Percussion, String and Wind instruments. Once
children reach a certain standard of performing there will be a number of
opportunities to perform at concerts and events throughout the year.
